Teak is considered one of the sturdiest woods and does not require any pricey treatment for maintaining its durability. But if you ignore timely cleaning, teak furniture may fade to first light brown and then silvery gray. If you want to preserve the golden brown luster of teak cabinet, it is recommended to oil teak timely. A crucial point to remember is that for furniture placed in damp ambience or outdoor teak furniture do not require oiling as it will lead to the yeast growth.
Know the Benefits
If you regularly oil teak furniture, the furniture will remain glossy. Additionally, oiling will make damages or scratches less visible. But also remember the fact that if you apply oil once, teak furniture may get dependent on regular oiling, at least once every three to four months.
Take necessary precautions
Before oiling, put on gloves for avoiding getting oil on your hand, which can lead to skin irritations. Work in a well ventilated area to eliminate the chances of any health issue due to long term exposure to teak oils. As teak oils can be inflammable, it is recommended to place it away from heat sources.
Wipe the furniture
If you timely clean the teak furniture, wipe it thoroughly using a clean cloth. If the furniture feels sticky or looks dirty, wash it using a mild soap and water. Allow it to dry.
Apply Teak Oil
Using a paint brush apply even strokes of teak oil. Keep applying the oil till the furniture gets a matt appearance. Wait for 10 minutes.
Wipe with a Clean Cloth
When the oil has penetrated the teak beams, using a clean cloth to remove the excess oil.
Reapply Teak Oil Regularly
Keep in mind to apply teak oil once every three months or even before when you notice the glossy color of the teak wood fading!
